Facebook introduces its new, revolutionary, groundbreaking rebrand... This isn't sarcasm though. The company has been facing calls from politicians and consumer advocates to break up into various pieces. So the rebranding and new logo has come around to further distinguish the Facebook company from its flagship app, which will not change.
Facebook has now rebranded as FACEBOOK. Maybe as revolutionary as dropping the 'the'.
In a blog post they have announced the brand will retain the name of the social network but would have a new logo and better indicate the various products and services that it offers, which include Instagram, WhatsApp and OCulus VR.
"Today, we’re updating our company branding to be clearer about the products that come from Facebook," Antonio Lucio, the company's chief marketing officer, wrote in the blog post. "We’re introducing a new company logo and further distinguishing the Facebook company from the Facebook app, which will keep its own branding."
"This brand change is a way to better communicate our ownership structure to the people and businesses who use our services to connect, share, build community and grow their audiences," Lucio wrote.
The new logo is as above, Facebook but written in capitalised letters with custom typography. The company said the brand new brand would appear on Instagram, WhatsApp and other platforms.
Google made a similar move in 2015, but their restructure gave their parent company a new name "Alphabet".
Does the creative rebrand communicate to you what they wanted to?
