We’ve all had a job that just hasn’t been the right fit for us and there’s no shame in walking away from a role if you’ve got good reason to.
With that said, if you’ve uttered several of these phrases about your work on more than one occasion it might be time to consider handing in your notice...
“I’m dreading going to work tomorrow.”
Everyone experiences a bout of Sunday sadness once in awhile, but when those emotions begin to crop up every night of the week it’s a sign that something’s not right.
“I have zero interest in the work I do.”
Sticking with a job that has nothing to do with your career goals or personal interests is exhausting and unproductive. Don’t let your work leave you feeling unhappy and uninspired!
“I feel like I’ve lost my spark at work.”
Life’s too short not to do what you enjoy! If you hate all aspects of your role and everyday is more about surviving until the clock strikes five, you’re in the wrong job.
“I can’t even remember the last time somebody thanked me for something I did at work.”
We all need praise for our efforts and reassurance that we’re doing things right from time to time. Don’t stick around if you feel as though your contributions are going unnoticed.
“I don’t even think there’s room for promotion in my current role.”
A career should help you to grow and develop, not stifle your potential. If your role doesn’t have a clear path of progression up the corporate ladder it’s time to quit.
“I have no idea what I would do if I quit my job.”
Staying in your job because you can’t envision yourself doing anything else is one of the biggest reasons to leave; you just need to believe in yourself and take a leap of faith!
“I couldn’t sleep last night I was so worried about today.”
OK, so we’ve all had sleepless nights before big presentations but if work’s stressing you out so much it’s stopping you from catching those all important z’s every night, walk away.
“I sit at my desk and do the same thing everyday.”
When your job has become so predictable that you already know what your day will hold before you get to your desk it’s not good – everyone needs new challenges to stay stimulated.
“I feel like an outcast.”
Getting on with your colleagues and feeling like you’re part of the team is so important. If you feel like you're a cultural clash it might be time to find somewhere you fit in better.
“I don’t feel like I’m accomplishing anything meaningful.”
Most of us go to work for a pay packet, but that doesn’t mean we don’t also want to feel we’re contributing to something bigger. Wave goodbye if you feel your work isn’t making an impact.
We’re by no means suggesting that choosing to quit your job is an easy decision, but sometimes it needs to be done and you shouldn’t feel badly or scared about that – there is always light at the end of the tunnel.
