art and copy film
As part of the official selection for Sundance Film Festival 2009, this film focuses on advertising that has moved and inspired us, the kind that “makes food taste better, makes cars run better”.
For those of you who don’t already have it listed as a highlight in your diary for the coming week, the Melbourne Writer’s Festival is almost upon us! As usual there will be a vast array of sensational events, dinners, speeches and networking opportunities. Among the barrage is one particularly interesting showing – a film entitled Art & Copy, created by acclaimed director, Doug Pray, and featuring a selection of artists and writers who have contributed in a big way to inspirational advertising. The film highlights campaigns that have stood the test of time and visually explores the art of “manufacturing whatever emotion you want to manufacture”.
Although under no dilusion that we are often bombarded with advertising that is not of the highest quality, or even advertising that pertains to be, the film prefers to move away from the “Mad Men” tack and instead document the creative motivation and emotions related to the ads that have “profoundly shaped our culture”.
Art & Copy opens from August 21st for the Melbourne Writer’s Festival, to check out a synopsis and snippet of the film go to www.artandcopyfilm.com
Although it is likely to be a film enjoyable by all good consumers, it is particularly poignant for those working within the Advertising realm if only to offer an opportunity to get inspired and, hopefully increase the number of “meaningful...entertaining and socially uplifting ads”.
